Understanding “how, where, when and why” weather data is collected and how its forecast, is absolutely crucial for safe and effective operation of marine vessels. With the numerous forecasts available to Mariners today, understanding how forecasts are created and their origins is crucial in making an informed decision in interpretation and application to your time on the water. This presentation will guide you through the major components of data gathering and forecasting followed by exploring some of the potential local effects that should be understood for safe operations of your vessel. This presentation will allow for 10-15 minutes at the end to discuss and understand user requirements.

An avid boater and fisherman with over 30 years of experience in the weather service from launching weather balloons in the High Arctic to forecasting for Aviation, Marine and Public. Serge brings a wealth of experience to this presentation on Marine weather and how it can be applied to a more safe operation of your vessel.
