Boaters travel from around the world to explore Ontario’s Historic Canals, and with free lockage in celebration of Canada’s 150 – interest is higher than ever! This seminar is your chance learn the “in’s and out’s” from an expert in the field. Chad Buchner, Manager of Operations for the Trent-Severn Waterway will share with you what’s new and where to visit, plus all the insider tips, tricks and techniques to get the most out of your boating experience. NEW THIS YEAR - Chad will take you on a virtual boating tour of the Trent-Severn Waterway – putting you in the Captain’s seat and teaching you how to lock-through in the comfort of the presentation theatre. You will be introduced to all things a boater needs to know when exploring Ontario’s Historic Canals.
Chad began his career with Parks Canada in 1999 as a student at the Peterborough Lift Lock. The son of a Lockmaster, he followed in the family tradition when he became the youngest Lockmaster on the Trent-Severn Waterway at the age of 25. These days, when not managing the operations of Canada’s busiest canal, Chad can be found lounging dockside enjoying Ontario’s beautiful lake country with his friends and family. These winter months have become much brighter for Chad as his passion for teaching his young children to become Maple Leafs fans has become much more enjoyable. If you are looking for some one-on-one information about the Canals in Ontario you can catch Chad and the rest of the Ontario Waterways Team this week at the Parks Canada booth, G-107.
